Formation

Ghana Reinsurance Company Limited (Ghana Re) commenced operations in 1972 as the Ghana Reinsurance Organization, and was incorporated as a Limited Liability Company on June 16, 1995. With over forty (40) years of operation as a reinsurance service provider the Company has lived up to its promise of being a “reinsurer of choice” on the African continent. In addition to its head office located in Accra, Ghana, the Company currently has two regional offices in Kenya and Cameroon.

Ownership

Ghana Re is wholly owned by the Government of Ghana. The company is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the sole shareholder. Day-to-day business is run by a team of dynamic professional staff headed by the Managing Director who is assisted by two Deputy Managing Directors.

Milestones

1972 -Set up as a reinsurance department of SIC Insurance Company (then State Insurance Corporation)

1984 - Gained autonomy as a Reinsurance Company

1995 - Incorporated as a limited liability company with 100% government shareholding

2011 - Established Cameroon Regional Office

2012 - Relocated to current Head Office building, Established Kenya Regional Office
