Ghana Re and SCG RE Sign Partnership Agreement - Posted: 2015-09-30 06:58:53

On 6th May 2015, SCG-Re of Gabon and Ghana Re signed a partnership agreement in Libreville, Gabon aimed at forming a south-south strategic alliance.
This partnership is geared towards enhancing the portfolio of the two companies as well as widening their activities in new reinsurance areas to enable them grow low risk and profitable investments.

The partnership, furthermore, paves the way for the two companies to share experiences for their mutual benefit. It is also expected to help them better develop their activities and contribute more to the growth of their respective local markets.

Signing the agreement, Mr. Crepin Magloire Andrew Gwodock, Managing Director of SCG-Re indicated that the alliance has been forged with an African vision to continue with efforts made towards a credible African reinsurance practice, that would offer appropriate cover to cedants on the continent in the spirit of a south-south cooperation.
The Managing Director of Ghana Re, Mr. Gustav K Siale, on his part, pointed out that the agreement is a useful tool which the two companies would use to meet the expectations of clients in a more efficient and dynamic way.

Seminar on Term Assurance by SCG Re and Ghana Re


In line with the above, on 8th July, 2015, SCG Re in collaboration with Ghana Re organized a seminar for the local market in Libreville on "TERM ASSURANCE: Underwriting, Marketing and Claims Management".
The seminar was organized for insurance brokers, insurance companies and the general public. It was aimed at developing local expertise in the area of Term Assurance which is expected to lead to an increase in financial retention on the continent and help reduce the outflow of foreign exchange. This, it is believed, would in turn make funds available for investments in the African economy.
Mr. Mamadou Faye, former Commissioner of CIMA and currently Managing Director of SEN Assurances Vie of Senegal was the facilitator for the seminar. In reiterating the importance of Term Assurance to participants, he observed that each person needs to have a life cover, so as not to leave one’s family helpless after death.

6th Cedants Awards Night

The Ghana Reinsurance Awards ceremony, "Cedants' Awards Night" was established six years ago, to show appreciation to the local insurance companies for their diligent efforts, loyalty and support for Ghana Re and the industry as a whole. The occasion is also used to recognise and reward some of these companies which made notable contributions within a particular financial year towards the growth and profitability of the Company.

Being an international organisation, Ghana Re has given a new dimension to the award scheme with the establishment of an award for its international business partners. Consequently top international brokers were also awarded at the ceremony.

The award ceremony was in respect of the 2014 financial year's performance.

The "6th Cedants' Awards Night" was under the theme "Insurance - A tool for national development".

The Guest Speaker for the occasion was Dr. Joyce Aryee, former Chief Executive Officer, Ghana Chamber of Mines and the Chairman was Hon. Mike Hammah, chairman of the Board of Directors for SIC Insurance Co. Ltd. In Attendance was the Deputy Commissioner of Insurance, Mr. Simon Davor.

Ghana Re encounters risks from all facets of its operations. To ensure the Company's survival and continuity, in the event of unexpected occurrences, a company-wide culture of identifying, assessing and monitoring risks in addition to implementing mitigating actions is promoted across all the offices.

At Ghana Re, the Risk Management Committee (RMC) under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Managing Director is responsible for the overall vision, initiative and direction of the enterprise risk management with approval of the risk strategy from the Board of Directors.

Ghana Re Donates to Selected Institutions - Posted: 2015-08-31 22:23:19

In line with its Corporate Social Responsibility, Ghana Re donated varied amounts to selected health and educational institutions in Ghana. The annual event took place at the company’s head office on Friday August 14, 2015.

As part of the ceremony, recipients of the awards were given the opportunity to comment on the application of the funds over the years and the extent to which it has benefitted their institutions. To this end, the undermentioned representatives of their respective institutions gave brief remarks:

  • Prof. Yao Tettey (Provost, College of Health Science, Korle-Bu)
  • Mrs. Christine Banning (Head of Students Financial Aid Office, Legon)
  • Dr. Lawrence Serebour (Heart Foundation, Korle-Bu)
  • Dr. J.E. Mensah (Urology Department, Korle-Bu)

The recipients expressed appreciation for being considered annually for the donations and gave profound testimonies on how the donation has directly impacted positively on lives.

The Managing Director, Mr. Gustav Siale, reiterated Ghana Re's commitment to this worthy cause and assured recipients that the company will not hesitate to revise the amounts donated upwards if the fortunes of the company improve.

A total amount of One Hundred and Thirteen Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH?113,000) was donated to the under-listed institutions.

The Board, Management and Staff of Ghana Re on Friday 27th September 2013, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), made a donation to beneficiaries of this annual award.

Ghana Re considers the human capital of a country key to the creation of a vibrant economy. This has been the key motivating factor in selecting this year’s recipients (all figures in GHS):

  • College of Health Sciences, Korle-Bu, Accra ----- 10,000.00
  • School of Medical Sciences, KNUST, Kumasi----- 8,000.00
  • Students Financial Aid Office, University of Ghana, Legon ----- 8,000.00

The annual widows’ mite donation towards the graduate programs of both the College of Health Sciences, Legon and School of Medical Sciences, KNUST is to ensure that various faculties in these institutions continue to be infused with dynamic individuals who will contribute towards a better health delivery system to the citizenry, thus ensuring healthy human capital to oil the wheels of economic activities.

The well-being of the venerable in society informed the choice in selecting the Department of Child Health, Urology Department, National Trust Fund, The Student's Aid fund and the Heart Foundation as recipients of our annual donations. The children, the aged and persons with special disabilities was also considered.
