William holds a B.A. (Hons) in Political Science from the University of Ghana, Legon, a Diploma (Distinction) in Insurance from the West African Insurance Institute and is a fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, London.

 

William has over 20 years experience in the insurance/reinsurance industry.

 

From 1981 to 1987 he worked with various insurance companies in Nigeria.  He worked with the State Insurance Company Ltd (now SIC Insurance Co. Ltd) from 1097 until 1990 when he joined Ghana Re as an Assistant Deputy Manager, Fire and Accident Dept.  By dint of hard work he rose steadily and became Head of Technical Operations in1998.

 

In 2001 he was appointed Deputy Managing Director and member of the Board of Directors of Ghana Re.  In August 2005, Mr. William Agbenyega was appointed Acting Managing Director of Ghana Re.  Subsequently, in January 2006, he was confirmed as the Managing Director.

 

To broaden his scope and depth of knowledge in insurance, Mr. Agbenyega has attended several local and international seminars in several countries in Africa, Europe and Asia.

 

He has also served as a resource person at several of Ghana Re’s industry support training programmes and at intensive reinsurance courses organized by the West Africa Insurance Institute.

 

Mr. Agbenyega is a member of the Committee of Consortium of West African Insurers on West Africa Gas Pipeline Project.  He is also a member of the Governing Council of the Ghana Insurance Institute and the West Africa Insurance Institute, Banjul.

 

William is married with two (2) children.

 

William has also attended several courses, conferences and seminars on insurance/reinsurance in South Africa, Bahrain, Egypt, Germany, Uganda and Nigeria.
