Dr. J. K. Kwakye-Marfo graduated in 1968 as a Medical Practitioner from Staatsexamen (MB, CHB) in Berlin, Germany.  He also obtained a Doctor of Medicine in Free University of West Berlin in Germany and was elected a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians in November 1990.  He is a Foundation Fellow of Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons and has worked in several hospitals and capacities in Germany and Ghana. 

 

Dr. Kwakye-Marfo is currently the Executive Director of the West End Hospital,  Kumasi of which he established in 1979.

 

Dr. Kwakye-Marfo’s  Management and Administrative Appointments have been the following:

 

· Medical Consultant (Advisor) to the Methodist Church, Ghana

· A Past President of the Ghana Medical Association

· A Member of the Medical & Dental Council of Ghana

· A Member of the Nurses and Midwives Council of Ghana

· A Member of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Board

· A Member of the National Health Insurance Council

 

Dr. Kwkaye-Marfo is a Resource person for the Metro and Regional Health teams which help formulate policies on Reproductive health for the Kumasi Metropolitan Health Institutions.

 

In March 2000, Dr. Kwakye-Marfo was honoured by the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England, as one of the outstanding people of the 20th century with the following citation.  “In honour of an outstanding contribution in the field of Medicine and to the Ghana Medical Association”.

 

Dr. Kwakye-Marfo is married with children and has served on the Ghana Re Board since 2001.
